These beloved biennials and perennials bear spikes of colorful pendant tubular flowers, often with brown-spotted throats.  They perform best in rich, moist, well-drained soil that is slightly acidic and will tolerate sun in cooler climates.  Biennial types should be cut back after flowering, leaving a few spikes to reseed for continuity.
